The Association

Eastney and Milton Allotment Association is an Association of plot holders on the Eastney Lake, Hope Cottage and Milton Piece allotment sites. These are known collectively as the Eastney and Milton Allotments.
It is a self-help organisation that exists to:

  • Improve facilities at each site.
  • Represent plot-holders' views collectively to the City Council.
  • Organise events and social functions.
  • It is run by a committee that is elected annually by members at the Annual General Meeting. All those who work in the shop are either on the committee or volunteer their time to the Association.


The Allotments

Gates:
As with most allotment sites, we suffer our fair share of vandalism, theft and fly tipping. To counter this, it is important that all gates are kept locked at all times.
Site address:
There are 3 gates onto the allotment site. The main gate and car park for access to the shop, Milton Piece and the eastern parts of Eastney Lake is off Locksway Road. The postcode for this entrance is PO4 8LF.
There are 2 gates in Meryl Road that access the small car park for Hope Cottage and the western parts of Eastney Lake. The post code for these entrances is PO4 8LA.
In case of an emergency, please give the relevant postcode to the Emergency Services for your nearest entrance.



Join the Association

Join the Association Drop in to the shop and sign up to become a member of the Eastney and Milton Allotment Association.
Even if you are not joining please pop in and register your contact details so you can be informed of any news or problems. Thanks.
Membership benefits include:

  • Use of the onsite shop and it's discounted rates.
  • Use of the onsite toilets.
  • Association membership of the National Society of Allotment Holders and Leisure Gardeners (NSALG).
  • Association membership of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
  • Insurance to ensure we are able to provide a shop onsite.
  • Third party insurance.

Membership

There are two types of membership...

  • Full Membership for Eastney Lake, Hope Cottage and Milton Piece allotment holders. Membership fee £5.00 (Jan 2025)
  • Garden Membership for those who do not hold an allotment on the site but wish to participate in the Association's activities and use the shop.
Membership is payable each January at the shop. You will receive a membership card valid for the year (or part of the year, depending on when you join).
Please note that membership of the Association is on an individual basis, 'one person, one subscription, one membership card'.

RHS Wisley visit 13th September 2025

The Eastney and Milton Allotment Association is running a coach trip to the beautiful and informative RHS Garden Wisley for members and guests of the association.

"RHS Garden Wisley is one of the world’s great gardens, packed with horticultural inspiration. RHS Garden Wisley." Book soon to avoid disappointment, the full details are as follows.

  • Date: Saturday September 13th - 9am
  • Cost: £10 for association members / £15 for guests
  • The cost includes coach travel to and from Wisley, plus entrance to RHS Wisley.
  • Coach pick up point on Locksway Road, close to the main allotment entrance car park.
  • Make your booking at the allotment shop.

Of particular interest to allotment holders will probably be the The World Food Garden. This acre of garden is surrounded by a trained fruit boundary with alternating fencing to demonstrate different growing conditions and training techniques.

St Margaret's Community Church Pantry

This year we are collection any surplus produce to support the work of the St Mags Community Church Pantry. Based at St Margerets Community Church on Highland Road the Community Pantry is a place where members of a local community can access food and essential items, often at a reduced cost, to support those experiencing food insecurity or financial hardship.

Pantries have been shown to:

  • Strengthen communities
  • Improve health and wellbeing
  • Improve household finances
  • Prevent waste
  • Prevent hunger
  • Build dignity and agency

So if you have any surplus produce, maybe a massive crop of beans, or are inundated by tomatoes, please drop them off at the collection point outside of the allotment shop, where they will be collected and donated directly to the St Mags Community Pantry. Thank you very much.

Vandalism

In the case of vandalism at Portsmouth City Council (PCC) allotments, tenants should first contact the Portsmouth Police on 0845 045 4545.

Please also email the Eastney & Milton Allotment Association, email address shown above in the header, with details and date, so that the situation can be monitored.
